Tyler Christmas Lights

November 2005 - Present

My brother and I founded Tyler Christmas Lights in 2005. I was in 6th grade at the time. He was in 4th. We convinced our mom to buy us some Christmas lights and we decorated the front of our house.

In 2007, we went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH. We were inspired by their stunning use of lights, lasers, and special effects. When TSO announced the Symphony In Lights contest in 2008, we decided to enter. With only a plug-and-play Christmas light animator we did not win the contest, but we had so much fun that we upgraded to Light-O-Rama the following year.

Over the years the project has grown from a traditional light display to a musical show that draws hundreds of people each year. Since my brother moved to Columbus in 2013, I am now responsible for coordnating the entire 13,000 light display. One of the biggest challenges that I have to deal with each year is weather. I have to keep the wind and water from destroying equipment and keep the display safe to operate.

PHS Believe Choir Concert

December 2011 - December 2014

I began this annual project as president of the choirs at Perry High School. This display created new challenges because the music was played live by a pit orchestra. I had to find a way to keep the lights in sync with the music. I worked with choir diector Beth Polen and set designer Jack Everetts to come up with the theme and set for each show. I headed a team of high school students who were my stage hands.
